Aaron Brown English Composition 101 What is the impact of religion on American government and society? There are many factors that have an impact on the American government and society. One main factor is religion. Religion, defined by Webster’s Dictionary, is a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, especially when considered as the creation of a superhuman agency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs. The predominant religion of the United States is Christianity, and the minorities include Islam, Buddhism, Judaism, and Atheism. I think that abortion are one of your personal rights and shouldn’t be a part of government interests. Christians believe that you should never kill a baby while it is its mothers womb, but what about the women who got raped and don’t want the baby. The only arguments that the government is that they are trying to protect the rights of the unborn fetuses that cant make decisions by themselves. The people that make the choice for pro abortion have been killed, some abortion clinics have been attacked, and some women have had socil strife because of the conflicting choice against Christian values. Abortions are heavily protested by Christian activist even though multiple amendments protect them including the 4th, 9th, 11th, and 14th. Gay marriage is one of the most controversial topics being discussed in America today. Today in America, Christians feel like that because the bible states that homosexuality is a sin and then it should be illegal. A few states have taken the first step and started to accept the marriage of same sex marriage. I Believe that the government has no right to tell people if they can or cannot get married.
